Jonathan David Lightning™ | 8.5" Set - with Case

Ok, right off the bat I didn't like the thinners. I tried using them over and over on all different coats, and found myself working harder to take off the same amount as my "go to" thinners (which cost a LOT less) for the same result. That being said, they feel amazing and are super sharp and smooth. The curve and straight shears are absolutely beautiful, the finish they leave on ALL coat types is flawless! and I used them for months, constantly, before needing them sharpened. The ONLY thing I hated about them at first, is they "sing" when opening and closing. They were so loud at first, both pairs, my coworkers could hear them. It spooked dogs by their faces. BUT, it faded over time and now they are pretty quiet. I have other Kenchii shears, and none of them made any sound. Overall I'd recommend these, with those caveats.

Only thing I dislike is that she curves aren't as curved as I would prefer, I noticed that is how kenchii makes their shears, and that's OK. The shears themselves are lovely and cut nicely. The only thing I dislike is that the lightning bolt charm is very loose and wiggly on the set. I'd prefer no charm to get caught on things / wiggled about. I prefer the shear itself to be the selling point, not charms and cutesey designs. I bought these for the serrated edge on the curves and thought I'd try the 40 tooth thinners. They're nice, not as aggressive as I was hoping for, but they do their job and are made well. My favorite thinners are the utsumi speedy 2.0 so I was looking for something similar to that. Don't get me wrong, these are wonderful shears, I wish I could have purchased two of the curves instead of one curve and one straight, but it was less expensive to just get the set. Im excited to see how long the edge lasts on the level 3 shears. Maybe in future designs, just lazer etch a lightning bolt or whatever onto the steel instead of the bulky chep feeling charm things. These are nice shears and the charms feel so cheap. That's the only thing I would change in the future. I would love to see more micro serration on future curves, especially curved chunkers. Now that would be a killer design. I'd buy 3 serrated curved chunkers from kenchii!

I used these and they cut like my KENCHII spiders. Expected more for the price.

Decided to invest in tools to do a professional job at home on my two Shih tzus. Bought the Jonathan David Lightening set , the thinning shears are amazing and did most of the grooming with those! Gave 4 stars because the lightening bolts on the blades were loose and move around ( unsure if that is a defect, couldn’t get a definite answer from customer service on that) have only done few groomings so far but very happy and for price I invested hope they hold up as promised

The lightning thinner does cut off more hair than regular thinners! I like the length and the way it handles. The only thing I did not like was I could not adjust the blade tension myself (there is no adjustment knob), that's why the four stars. [EDIT: Tension on internal assembly shears such as the Lightning™ are adjusted by using the UFO key on the underside of the screw.]
